Behaviour Management
Children will follow certain rules that will introduce them to socialization skills and enable the class to function smoothly. Children who are not yet ready to participate in certain activities will not be included and will be invited to join when they are ready. Those who are not ready for certain activities will participate in alternative activities that meet their specific needs. We will emphasize with the children the importance of mutual respect for their peers and teachers. Our policy is to involve parents, children, and staff in solving any behavioural problems that may arise.
Health and Medication Policy
When a child shows symptoms of illness he/she will be separated from the rest of the class. The parents will be called to take the child home and to a medial practitioner. Symptoms can include but are not limited to vomiting, loose bowel movements, lethargic behaviour and/or the requirement of a staff taken from the group to care for the ill child.
It is very important to leave a phone number where you can be reached and also an additional emergency number of a next of kin in case you are not available.
Immunization records for your child must be updated and the daycare has a copy on file.
Medication:
A designated person from the daycare will administer medication to any child who needs it according to written authorization from the parent as to timing and dose. The medication must be in the original container, provided by the parents, and records will be kept in the child's files. There will be no allowance for administering over the counter medication unless a doctor's note accompanies it. All medication will be kept in a locked container.
Lice or nits:
Lice or nits can be a common occurrence that can happen in any daycare and are not related to the children's hygiene. If your child has lice or nits he/she will be removed from the classroom and the parents will be called to pick-up the child.
Nutrition
The daily menu will comply with the Canadian guide of recommended daily requirements for the four food group. Each meal will consist of at least one serving of milk and milk products, one serving from meat and alternate, one serving from bread and cereals and two servings from fruit and vegetables. Snacks that are nutritious and promote dental health are to be provided in between meals.
A menu for the current and following week will be displayed in a noticeable place. Please do not send any food items to the daycare. The names of children suffering from food allergies will posted in cooking and serving area.
Peanut/nut policy:
Our daycare will maintain a peanut/free environment.
Bringing and Picking up your child:
Please allow yourself enough time to undress your child and send him/her to the classroom where there is a teacher. If you cannot pick up your child from the centre, please inform the staff of alternate arrangements as your child will not be released to any unauthorized persons.
The centre's interior door is locked by an automatic mechanism that we ask you to lock again upon leaving the centre.
Napping:
Due to the long day the children are expected to rest for two hours in the afternoon. Please send a small blanket, a pillow, a small sheet (twin) and one favourite stuffed animal or doll for naptime only. All the items should be labelled and put in a bag. The bedding should be kept cleaned and washed often. Children who do not wish to nap can take this time for quiet activities and relaxation under teacher supervision.
Clothing:
All children must be dressed appropriately according to the weather conditions. It is advisable to dress the children in comfortable play clothes that are easily washed since some activities can be messy. Each child must have a complete set of extra clothes to change in to. Please ensure that all clothes are properly labelled to minimize loss and confusion.
Outdoor Play:
Except in the most inclement weather, we are required by the Day Nurseries Act, to take the children outdoors everyday throughout the year. There will be no exception made to this aspect of the programming so we ask that you keep your child at home if they are too ill to participate in outdoor activities. Children will be going outside twice a day, depending on the weather, please make sure that your child comes in with the appropriate outdoor clothing.
Birthdays:
Your child's birthday is special. We want to make this occasion unforgettable. You are more than welcome to provide treats and cake according to the food policy of the daycare. We will provide the fun. Once a month, the child's birthday will be celebrated with our music teacher. This day is filled with a fun enjoyment thrill for that child so the children are all anxious to celebrate their birthday.
